The TOURISMO project has officially entered the Transfer Phase of the Interreg Euro-MED Programme, marking an exciting new stage in its mission to support smarter, more sustainable tourism management across the Mediterranean.
Following the successful implementation and validation of innovative solutions during the project’s Testing Phase, TOURISMO is now focusing on extending the impact of its achievements by transferring its knowledge, methodologies and digital tools to new Mediterranean territories. This new phase reflects the project’s commitment to ensuring that the experience gained through collaboration and pilot implementation can benefit a wider network of destinations facing similar tourism challenges.
Over the past years, TOURISMO has demonstrated how data-driven approaches and innovative technologies can support more effective visitor flow management while promoting environmental sustainability, protecting cultural and natural heritage, and improving the quality of life for local communities. Through pilot activities implemented across diverse Mediterranean destinations, the project has tested solutions based on artificial intelligence, IoT technologies, smart sensing systems and advanced data analytics, providing public authorities with practical tools to better understand and manage tourism dynamics.
The Transfer Phase builds on these achievements by creating opportunities for new territories to adapt and implement proven TOURISMO solutions according to their own local needs and priorities. Rather than replicating a single model, the project promotes a flexible and collaborative approach that recognises the diversity of Mediterranean destinations while encouraging the exchange of knowledge and experience among partners.
A central element of this phase is the “givers–receivers” approach, through which partners that successfully developed and tested TOURISMO solutions will work closely with new participating organisations. By sharing practical experience, technical expertise and governance methodologies, experienced partners will support receiver territories throughout the adaptation and implementation process, strengthening local capacities and encouraging long-term ownership of the project’s results.
During the Transfer Phase, the partnership will focus on:
- Transferring validated tools and methodologies for smart visitor flow management;
- Supporting the adaptation of digital solutions to different territorial contexts;
- Strengthening cooperation and peer learning between Mediterranean regions;
- Enhancing the capacity of public authorities to use data-driven approaches for tourism planning and decision-making;
- Promoting sustainable tourism models that balance visitor experience, environmental protection and community well-being.
Beyond the transfer of technical solutions, the new phase aims to reinforce cooperation between regions and create a lasting network of destinations committed to innovation in tourism management. By encouraging the exchange of knowledge, experiences and good practices, TOURISMO will continue contributing to a more resilient and sustainable Mediterranean tourism ecosystem.
