Our story
TOURISMO will contribute to the management of tourism flows in Mediterranean destinations by promoting innovation and the uptake of advanced technologies.
The partnership brings together a wide range of destination profiles and tourism contexts, including UNESCO areas, ports, city centres, beaches, cultural heritage sites, protected coastal areas, rural destinations and tourism routes, across 10 European countries (GR, IT, ES, CY, BG, HR, MT, PT, FR & BiH). It also involves diverse stakeholders from across the tourism value chain, including Development Agencies, RTOs, public authorities, scientific experts, Innovation Institutes and Intermediaries, NGOs and Tourism Offices, allowing to test solutions in different environments, as well as capitalizing previous experience, guaranteeing simultaneously a high degree of innovation. This diversity also supports the transfer and adaptation of the TOURISMO approach to different territorial, environmental and governance conditions, while building on the experience gained during the project’s pilot phase.
Foreseen actions address directly or indirectly the key groups of stakeholders namely public authorities, tourist agencies, DMOs, solution providers &the traditional tourism SMEs.

Mission
Enhancing sustainable tourism
TOURISMO acknowledges that a shift to conscious and sustainable tourism requires innovative approaches, participation of various ecosystem stakeholders, an improvement of the tourist experience and a stronger engagement of end users.
And this is part of our mission; to provide insights to support this model of tourism.
Challenges Addressed
- social sustainability of tourism in terms of inclusiveness and accessibility, but also in terms of digital equity and tourist empowerment
- orient people flows so to avoid over-crowding and provide tourists the best possible experience
- harmonize the interaction between tourists and residents
- get in touch with tourists and at the same time sensitize them about a more sustainable tourism
- bring onboard all the necessary stakeholders to address the management of flows
- exploit the existing solutions and upscale them with novel functionalities
Objectives
- Analyse the touristic habits and flows, revise the set of tourism indicators to be collected, gather complementary data and specify the pilot actions in the selected pilot areas. In parallel, HERIT-DATA platform will be fine-tuned.
- Implement pilot testing, integrate collected data with complementary data to make tourism flows’ predictions and measure the impact of pilots. Additionally, deliver a framework on certifying destinations as sustainable.
- Communicate TOURISMO objectives and key findings to the target stakeholders through local workshops, facilitating further adoption of the tested solutions by developing use case scenaria and ensuring sustainability of the approach
